FR006

Luvisols occur mainly in temperate regions, particularly in areas with a Mediterranean-type of climate.

Characteristics

Soils having an argic horizon (a subsurface horizon with a distinct higher clay content than the overlying horizon) with a cation exchange capacity equal to or more than 24 cmolc per kg clay throughout.

VEGETATION AND LAND USE: Herbs and grasses: - coverage 100% - species: Viola odorata, Anemone Nemorosa. human influence: - nil. BRIEF CHARACTERIZATION OF THE SOIL: Brown, well drained clay soil with high animal activity and strongly developed sub-angular structure. Solid oolite limestone occurs at relative shallow depth and fragments of this rock can be observed throughout the soil. ADDITIONAL NOTES ON PROFILE DESCRIPTION: O - high worm activity. - leaves: mainly beech. Ah - high worm and insect activity. Bw - high worm activity. 2Bt - high worm activity. - cutans kind: ferri-argillans. 2BC - cutans kind: ferri-argillans.
